The British 1/2 Sovereign Gold coin was produced from the mid-1800s to the current day. This coin was freely traded as a circulation coin while Britain was on the gold standard. When Britain abandoned the gold standard, production of the sovereign ceased.

The obverse features an effigy of King George V or another reigning Sovereign.

The reverse features an image of St. George the dragon slayer sitting upon a horse, with the dragon below them. This same image has been used on the sovereign for almost 200 years.
